Recently, Victoria’s state nomination program announced a Fast Track pathway for state nomination, available to state nomination applicants who have a qualified occupation in health, teaching, or social services and meet the minimum visa requirements. This means that individuals with a Fast Track nominated occupation will be selected for visa nomination within two weeks of submitting their application. If the nomination application meets all minimum visa requirements, state nomination will be approved within five working days.

Applicants for other occupations will continue to use the existing process for nomination.

Additionally, the Victorian government recently sent an email announcement stating that all applicants in Victoria, even those currently residing in Melbourne, can apply for the 491 state nomination!

What is the minimum eligibility for nomination?

To be nominated, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Obtain a minimum score of 65 on SkillSelect EOI (Expression of Interest).
  • Pass the IELTS with a minimum of 6 in each of the four components (or another language test).
  • Pass the relevant skills assessment for your occupation.
  • Be under 45 years of age.
  • Reside in the state of Victoria.

What should I do if my occupation is on the fast-track nomination occupation list, but I have already submitted an ROI (Registration of Interest)?

If you have already submitted an ROI for a fast-track nomination occupation and meet the minimum visa requirements, your ROI will be selected within two weeks.

What should I do if I have already submitted an application on SkillSelect EOI but have not yet submitted an ROI?

If you have already submitted a SkillSelect EOI and your occupation is on the fast-track nomination occupation list, you do not need to submit an ROI. The Victorian Government will automatically add your application to the fast-track review process and issue an invitation to you within two weeks.

How can residents of Victoria apply for a 491 visa?

Residents living and working in the Melbourne metropolitan area can now submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for nomination for the Skilled Work Regional Visa (491 visa). The new expanded eligibility criteria open up Victoria’s 491 visa program to skilled migrants living in the state, including those previously ineligible who reside in the Melbourne metropolitan area and wish to move to a designated regional area of Victoria to work and live.

491 visa holders must live, work, and study in a designated area of Victoria for at least three years before they can apply for the 191 visa, which grants permanent residency. This means you may need to move to a designated area in Victoria or find a job offering regional employment.

New applicants need to follow these four steps to apply for a 491 visa nomination:

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs through SkillSelect.
  2. Using the EOI number received from SkillSelect, submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for Victorian nomination through the Live in Melbourne portal.
  3. Once selected for the Victorian visa nomination, apply for the 491 visa nomination through the Live in Melbourne portal.
  4. If your nomination application is approved, submit a visa application to the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.

If you have already applied for a 190 visa nomination, you can submit a new ROI for the 491 visa nomination after withdrawing your existing 190 visa nomination ROI.
