NIV 858 Overview

The National Innovation Visa (subclass 858) replaced the Global Talent Visa for new applicants on 6 December 2024. The Distinguished Talent (subclass 124) visa was also closed to new applicants on 6 December 2024; existing 124 applicants may complete their applications under transitional arrangements.

The NIV 858 is the migration arm of Australia's Future Made in Australia industrial strategy — designed to attract globally recognised talent into the priority sectors the Commonwealth is investing in, including critical technologies (AI, quantum and cyber), green and clean-energy manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, defence and space, fintech, healthtech and biotech, agtech, robotics and education technology.

The National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) provides a direct pathway to permanent residency for individuals with an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in their profession, sport, arts, or academia.

Unlike points-tested skilled visas, the NIV 858 focuses on your distinguished talent and ability to contribute to Australia's innovation ecosystem. Our migration agents specialise in building compelling cases for global talent applications.
