州担保可以帮助澳大利亚移民满足申请签证的条件。
一些澳大利亚移民签证要求申请者获得州或领地政府的提名，或是符合资格的亲属的担保。澳大利亚维州政府会为符合条件的澳洲技术移民和澳洲投资移民的申请者提供州担保。获得州担保并不能确保申请人能成功获得澳大利亚移民签证。维州政府的提名并非是签证申请，州担保只是能协助申请者满足申请签证的条件。

维州技术移民签证提名
为填补当地劳工市场的人才空缺，维多利亚州政府会引进海外可雇佣人才，为其提供在本州工作和生活的机会。 维州政府可提供担保的签证包括澳洲190技术移民签证和澳洲489偏远地区技术移民签证。
维州职业清单列表会界定符合资格的职业和申请州担保的最低要求，包括英语语言、工作经验和专长等。2016年12月1日，维州政府经过深入的劳工市场及行业人才调查后，正式发布了维州毕业生担保职业清单（State Nomination Occupation List for Graduates）和维州州担保职业清单（State Nomination Occupation List for Victoria）。
维州政府担保技术移民的具体审核标准包括：
- 具备满足州政府担保最低要求的能力；
- 个人学历、技能、经验（包括各种特殊技能）与维州劳工市场需求的匹配性以及可转换性；
- 个人（或携带家属）在维州长期定居的能力及决心；
- 个人职业特长要求，以及在维州的求职能力；
- 个人职业与年度担保名额的关系要求。
